About Us

History

FYBC was founded in 1997 by Lee Ai, Jin Lon Hon, and Robert Kin, who had a common passion — youth basketball. FYBC was started with a few simple objectives. First, we wanted to provide a safe and healthy environment for youths to spend their leisure time. In addition, we hoped to make available a training place that would help prepare our children to successfully compete in their school’s basketball programs. Furthermore, we liked to offer a perfect occasion for parents to de-stress from their hectic work week, and enjoy the weekend by watching their children participate. Lastly, we used this opportunity to encourage each and every player to improve their basketball skills, and build sportsmanship. Over the years, we believe we have accomplished what we set out to do. We created a very enjoyable, wholesome and competitive environment for our children. We saw a large percentage of FYBC youths excel in their school district’s sports programs.

We had very few rules and regulations when we first started. The program was run by several coaches and a few parent volunteers. The club’s activities were completely funded by coaches and parents. We had an open door policy and we welcomed any child wanting to play basketball. We made learning basketball accessible to children from all families and “No child left behind” was our simple guiding principle. As FYBC evolved, the club grew rapidly and became a popular after-school basketball league in the east bay. Our coaches’ dedication paid off and our homegrown FYBC players began to achieve good showing and recognition in the Bay Area NJB, AAU, and several Asian League basketball tournaments. At that point, the FYBC founders felt the urgent need to become a more established organization.

Today, we are very proud that FYBC had become a California Not-for-Profit Organization with both boys and girls teams, ranging from 4th grade to 12th grade. We have a very seasoned board of directors overseeing our day-to-day operations, and many hard-working coaches, seeking every possible way to improve our training programs. Most importantly, we have many dedicated parents and family members, who work hand-in-hand with us, to make FYBC a safe and exciting place for our children.

FYBC rents various local gyms for team practices on the weekends. Due to the availability of these gyms, a team may practice at one facility for one quarter and move to another in the next quarter. The practice times may change from quarter to quarter as well. One should always check the practice schedule prior to practice. Each team is allotted only 2 hours of practice each week. To maximize the use of the facility and time, each player is strongly encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of practice to warm-up. Our current practice facilities include:

  • Silliman Sports Center, 6800 Mowery Ave., Newark, CA 94560
  • Irvington Community Center, 41885 Blacow Rd, Fremont, CA 94538
  • Ohlone College, 43600 Mission Blvd, Fremont, CA 94539
